As nutrition science advances, so too must the way we develop and apply dietary guidance. This opening session brings together diverse perspectives to examine the science, processes, and real-world implications of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Through a series of short, high-impact talks, speakers will explore how nutrition evidence is translated into population guidance, why gaps persist between recommendations and real-world eating, and how emerging tools - including modeling and data science - may shape the future of dietary guidance. A moderated discussion will integrate these perspectives, clarify areas of consensus and tension, and identify priorities for research, implementation, and innovation. Designed to move beyond critique toward constructive dialogue, this session will reinforce the role of the nutrition science community in strengthening the rigor, relevance, and impact of dietary guidance.
