Associate Scientist
Fatty Acid Research Institute
Dr. Nada Abuknesha is an Associate Scientist at the Fatty Acid Research Institute. Her research spans cardiovascular, neurological, and nutritional epidemiology, with a particular focus on omega-3 fatty acids and their role in human health and disease. Current projects include leading an updated and comprehensive meta-analysis on EPA/DHA supplementation and new-onset atrial fibrillation risk; and investigating associations between Klotho (circulating plasma protein linked to longevity) and blood omega-3 levels.
She earned her Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from London Metropolitan University in 2024, where she investigated omega-3 fatty acid supplementation (EPA/DHA) as an adjunct therapy to anti-seizure medications for managing uncontrollable seizures in drug-resistant epilepsy patients in Sudan. She has received several recognitions for her work, including the Society of Chemical Industry Young Lipid Scientist Award 2023 and shortlisted a finalist in the UK Parliament STEM For Britain competition in the same year. Her research has been presented at leading international conferences, including the American Society for Nutrition, Euro Fed Lipid and the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL), where she was named one of top 10 New Investigators at the 2021 ISSFAL Virtual Congress.
