Dr. Sabrina Ayoub-Charette is a Research Associate in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto and the Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Centre at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, working under Drs. Laura Chiavaroli and John Sievenpiper. Her early work focused on systematic reviews and meta-analysis of the effect of food sources of fructose-containing sugars on various cardiometabolic risk factors. More recently, Dr. Ayoub-Charette's interests have shifted towards the role of low- and no-calorie sweeteners in replacing added sugars in the diet, and their effects on health through the human gut microbiome. During her PhD, Dr. Ayoub-Charette was the main data analyst and bioinformatician of the Strategies To OPpose SUGARS with Non-nutritive sweeteners Or Water (STOP SUGARS NOW) trial, a clinical trial investigating the effect of replacing sugar-sweetened beverages with non-nutritive sweetened beverages or water on the diabetes risk factors and the gut microbiome in sugary beverage consumers living with obesity. Currently, Sr. Ayoub-Charette's interests have shifted towards clinical trials of dietary patterns for the prevention, management and remission of disease, clinical trial methodology, scientific rigor and the responsible integration of AI in scientific workflows.
