Kelly C. Cara, PhD nutrition, MS psychology, is a nutritional epidemiologist and post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Population Science at the American Cancer Society (ACS) in partnership with Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute. Her research examines the role of healthy and plant-based dietary patterns in achieving and maintaining health and preventing chronic diseases using data from large prospective cohort studies.
Dr. Cara also has extensive experience conducting systematic literature reviews to inform health and nutrition policy. Of note, she was involved in a large scoping review and subsequent systematic review that supported the joint Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)/World Health Organization (WHO) nutrient requirement updates for children aged 0-36 months. In more than a dozen other reviews, she examined whether certain nutrients, food components, and dietary patterns are associated with health outcomes and overall diet quality. Dr. Cara received the “Top Reviewer in 2024” award from the American Society for Nutrition's publication, Advances in Nutrition.
