Professor
Agroparistech/Université Paris-Saclay
Paris, Ile-de-France, France
Professor Daniel Tomé has an educational Background in Biochemistry, Biology, Food Science, and Nutrition (Paris, France). He started in 1976 as a researcher at INRAE (French National Research Institute for Agriculture and Environment) and became in 1995 Professor in Human Nutrition at AgroParisTech (Paris Institute of technology for life, food, and environmental sciences, Université Paris-Saclay, France). He has been involved in several research and education activities related to food, nutrition, and human health. His expertise is mainly related to protein and amino acid requirement and food protein quality. His research addressed important scientific and methodological challenges with major consequences for nutritional security and public health policies. He could develop stable isotopes tracer approaches for analysing protein and amino acid bioavailability, and amino acid utilization and partitioning through anabolic and catabolic pathways to maintain tissue and body functions. He also contributed to the evaluation of the mechanisms by which protein sufficiency is controlled through signaling processes that modulate and adapt protein and amino acid metabolism and feeding behavior to maintain protein-energy balance and protein status. Within the scientific community, Professor Tomé had several international editorial activities and is currently Associate Editor for the Journal of Nutrition since 2012. He has been actively involved in expert committees from European Union (EFSA, ERC), and from international authorities (FAO, WHO, IAEA) providing scientific advice and recommendations for nutrition and food. He is particularly involved in the establishment of reference values for protein and amino acid requirement and the quality of protein sources for human populations. Daniel Tomé’s research activity was awarded as Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN Fellow, 2023) for outstanding research career.
