Dr. Nancy Emenaker is a Program Officer in the Nutritional Science Research Group in the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, where she oversees a basic and clinical research portfolio in nutrition and cancer prevention. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Nutrition with a Minor in Health Education from The Ohio State University. Dr. Emenaker completed both her postdoctoral training in GI surgery and a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Yale University School of Medicine. She is an ASN Diet & Cancer RIS founding member, later serving as its Chair. Her expertise earned her national scientific and biomedical organizational leadership roles, including the National Nutrient Databank Conference and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as study section service requests for federal agencies, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Affairs Administration (VA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and ARPHA-H Women's Health Initiative, as well as private foundations. Dr. Emenaker has numerous peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and invited national and international presentations. In 2023, Dr. Emenaker was honored with the prestigious National Cancer Institute Director's Award for her work promoting oncology workforce development. She received NCI funding for over a decade for her collaborative research focusing on angiogenesis and dietary factors. Before joining the NIH, Dr. Emenaker was a funded Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. Her research predominately focused on dietary modification of matrix biologic effects of metastatic colonic and breast cancers and peri- and extravasational tumor cell signaling events. As a member of the Department of Physiology & Cellular Biophysics her expertise earned her full membership in the Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center Gastrointestinal Malignancies, Carcinogenesis, and Prevention & Control Programs.
