Hope A. Weiler, PhD (she/her/hers)

Dr. Hope Weiler is a Research Scientist in the Bureau of Nutritional Sciences, Food and Nutrition Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch at Health Canada. She joined Health Canada in 2018 to lead a research on fat-soluble vitamins, with specific emphasis on vitamin D status of people living in Canada. Her education includes a B.A.Sc. in Applied Human Nutrition, University of Guelph; and a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences, Cell Biology and Metabolism, McMaster University. Prior to joining Health Canada, she was Professor and Registered Dietitian in the School of Human Nutrition in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at McGill University and held Canada Research Chair status from 2005 to 2018. She was an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba (1996-2005) in the Departments of Human Nutritional Sciences and Pediatrics and Child Health, and was in receipt of a New Investigator Salary Award from the Canadians Institutes of Health Research. To date, Dr. Weiler has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and provided graduate training to numerous graduate and undergraduate trainees. Dr. Weiler has been awarded prestigious awards for her work in nutrition and bone health including: the Future leaders Award from the International Life Sciences Institute; the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development from the American Society for Nutrition; the New Investigator Award from the Canadian Nutrition Society; and the Wiebe Visser International Nutrition Dairy Prize from the International Dairy Federation. She has served numerous societies, organizations and areas of nutrition including national and international federal funding agencies in peer-review. Dr. Weiler is an Associate Editor for The Journal of Nutrition.
