I am conducting research on "elucidating the mechanisms by which food components prevent lifestyle-related diseases and developing strategies for their application," a field that can be broadly categorized into the following four areas; 1) Anti-cancer effects and the enhancement of xenobiotic metabolism, 2) Preventive effects of food components against inflammatory diseases (liver and kidney diseases), 3) Identification of food components that suppress obesity and elucidation of their molecular mechanisms, 4) Identification of food components that prevent neurodegenerative diseases and analysis of their mechanisms of action.
A distinctive feature of my research approach is the ability to conduct experiments at both the cellular and animal levels: I elucidate mechanisms of action at the cellular level and subsequently verify, at the animal level, that the components are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and act upon target organs.
