Dr. Moraga Franco is a nutritional epidemiologist and postdoctoral scholar at the USDA HNRCA whose research focuses on how diet quality, food environments, and social and commercial determinants of health shape nutrition and health outcomes. She has experience in mixed-methods research and program evaluation, including the design and implementation of surveys, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and the evaluation of community-based programs. Prior work includes studies on voluntary food fortification in the United States, socio-demographic patterns in fortified food purchasing, and the broader role of food environments on purchasing behaviors and health outcomes. She has also contributed to projects examining the availability of folic acid–fortified corn masa products in the U.S., the impact of cash voucher programs on malnutrition prevention in Mozambique, and the effects of COVID-19 on food security among health center clients in Northern California. Across her work, Dr. Moraga Franco leverages large-scale dietary and consumer datasets and food composition databases. She is deeply committed to advancing nutrition policy and interventions that promote health equity.
