We conducted a 30-day open label, prospective, multicenter, randomized clinical trial including 102 adult patients (aged 30-60 years) with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension (DM&HT) in three groups: Drug (semaglutide + empagliflozin); Surgical (laparoscopic minigastric bypass); and VLCD ( ‘Analimentary-detoxication’)
The fastest method to reduce HbA1c in patients with DM&HT was in VLCD: the greater the weight loss, the lower the HbA1c: If body mass decreases by 25%, HbA1c decreases by 39%. Weight loss in VLCD resulted in a reduction in the dose of antihyperglycemic/antihypertensive/symptomatic drugs, up to their complete discontinuation.
