Dr. Hoelscher is the Regional Campus Dean of the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Austin, the John P. McGovern Professor in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences, and the Founding Director of the Michael & Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living. Dr. Hoelscher’s research interests include engaging children and their families in healthier dietary and physical activity behaviors through behaviorally based and environmental interventions, as well as translating research evidence into policy. She also directs the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies, the state Perinatal Quality Collaborative. Dr. Hoelscher has received multiple NIH, state, and foundation grants, with over 250 peer-reviewed publications and numerous research, teaching, and mentoring awards, including the 2024 Oded Bar-Or Award for Excellence in Pediatric Obesity Research from The Obesity Society. Dr. Hoelscher was President of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) from 2012 to 2013 and was elected a Fellow of ISBNPA in 2015. She has held leadership positions in several scientific organizations and served on the 2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
