Marta is a Research Scientist at San Diego State University, in the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences. Her research focuses on calcium metabolism and dietary interventions to prevent and reverse aging related bone mineral loss. Her research interests are in molecular mechanisms of exercise and diet interventions to prevent and reverse chronic health conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis and neurodegenerative diseases. Marta completed undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at University of Belgrade in Serbia, and graduate training in Molecular Biology at the Max-Plank Research School in Gottingen, Germany. She holds PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and completed postdoctoral training in Metabolic Biology at UC Berkeley, in the Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology department. Marta currently holds Adjunct Faculty position at Merritt College in Oakland where she teaches evening courses in Nutrition for working professionals preparing to enter the field of nursing and health care.
