Dr. Chaoran Ma is an epidemiologist specializing in nutrition and cancer. She investigates how modifiable risk factors, particularly diet and behavior, influence cancer development, progression, and survivorship. Dr. Ma applies molecular epidemiologic approaches to uncover biological mechanisms underlying these associations, leveraging multi-omics data and gut microbiome profiles. More recently, she has begun exploring how sustainable dietary patterns contribute to chronic disease prevention in the broader context of population health and environmental challenges. The overarching goal of her research is to elucidate the mechanisms through which dietary and behavioral factors contribute to the etiology and trajectory of age-related chronic diseases, and to translate this knowledge into actionable strategies.
