Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dorothy Foehr and J. Lloyd Huck Early Career Chair in Host-Microbiome Interactions

The Bisanz lab studies how host-microbiota interactions influence health and disease by integrating experimental and computational approaches, including microbiome meta-analysis, comparative genomics, synthetic community design, and gnotobiotic models. This work focuses on defining the bidirectional interactions between microbial communities and their hosts, with an emphasis on mechanisms underlying infection resistance and nutrition. The long-term goal is to translate mechanistic insights from the gut microbiota into new therapeutic strategies and diagnostic tools. Since 2021, Jordan Bisanz has been an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Dorothy Foehr and J. Lloyd Huck Early Career Chair in Host-Microbiome at the Pennsylvania State University and One Health Microbiome Center. He was awarded the 2026 Early Career Award in Applied and Biotechnological Research from the American Society for Microbiology, and is recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher.
