I am a physician-scientist and my professional trajectory reflects a strong commitment to understanding and addressing obesity through both clinical and research perspectives. Trained in medicine in India, I developed a solid clinical foundation through direct patient care across multiple specialties, which informed my early recognition of the growing burden of chronic metabolic conditions and the need for approaches that extend beyond symptomatic management. I subsequently transitioned into clinical research, gaining experience in study designs, regulatory processes, and patient-centered investigation, before pursuing doctoral training at Texas Tech University under the mentorship of Dr. Nikhil V. Dhurandhar. My doctoral work examined longitudinal relationships between SARS-CoV-2 infection, body weight changes, and cardiometabolic outcomes, applying advanced analytical approaches to better understand variability in weight trajectories following COVID-19 infection and their clinical implications. In addition to my analytical training, I have contributed to experimental and translational research, including a randomized crossover study evaluating the effects of high-protein instant ramen noodles on satiety and energy intake, as well as validating a digital software-based “Small Changes” dietary intervention study aimed at supporting sustainable diet modification. My ongoing work focuses on the concept of food noise as a behavioral and psychosocial construct by analyzing its correlates in treatment-seeking populations, examining its relationship with weight change and lifestyle interventions, and exploring its implications for obesity management and potential therapeutic strategies such as GLP-1 RA based approaches. Alongside, I am in the phase of manuscript development from results obtained in the studies I conducted and actively involved in grant writing to support future research initiatives at the Nutrition and Metabolic Health Initiative. Throughout my training, I have also maintained engagement with patient care, using different metabolic testing techniques strengthening the translational relevance of my work. I have contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and presented my work at national scientific meetings, with recognition through institutional and national awards. As a Clinical Postdoctoral Research Fellow, I continue to support the department’s research mission while further developing as a clinician-investigator dedicated to advancing the understanding and management of obesity as a disease.
