Mary E. de Boer, Ph.D., M.Sc. is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Program in Human and Planetary Health at Stanford University's Doerr School of Sustainability and School of Medicine. Her research examines heterogeneity in response to maternal and child nutrition interventions in low- and middle-income countries, with the goal of improving how programs are targeted and delivered. Her doctoral research at Johns Hopkins University combined traditional nutritional epidemiology with spatial analysis, latent class modeling, and qualitative methods to investigate nutrition interventions in pregnancy and the burden of low birth weight in Bangladesh. Her current postdoctoral work explores how environmental exposures, particularly lead, interact with nutritional status and modify intervention efficacy in South Asia.

Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. de Boer spent over a decade as a USAID Foreign Service Officer, managing maternal and child nutrition programs across West Africa, East Africa, and Central Asia. She holds an M.Sc. in Health, Community, and Development from the London School of Economics and serves as a Technical Editor for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
