Sebastiano Banni is Full Professor of Physiology at the University of Cagliari, Italy. His research investigates how nutrition modulates metabolic adaptation through bioactive lipids and the endocannabinoidome. He pioneered the integration of lipidomic biomarkers with exercise physiology to characterize metabolic flexibility in humans and to identify nutritional determinants of metabolic health. His research spans clinical nutrition, lipid metabolism, molecular physiology, and biomarker discovery, with particular emphasis on dietary fatty acids, endocannabinoid-related mediators, mitochondrial metabolism, and inflammation. His current studies combine human intervention trials with mechanistic and lipidomic approaches to develop personalized nutritional strategies for the prevention and management of metabolic diseases.
