I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Nutrition and Movement Sciences, Institute of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism (NUTRIM), at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. My research focuses on how nutrition and metabolic health influence vascular function, brain insulin responsiveness, and cognitive performance in humans. During my PhD, I investigated the effects of dietary intervention strategies on vascular function and brain insulin responsiveness using well-controlled human nutrition trials within the Metabolic Research Unit Maastricht (MRUM) and non-invasive neuroimaging measurements at the Scannexus MRI facilities in Maastricht. I further developed my expertise in metabolic neuroimaging as a HIDA Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases of the Helmholtz Center Munich, University of Tübingen, where I worked on functional MRI approaches to study brain insulin responsiveness in relation to appetite regulation. My current postdoctoral work, supported by competitive early-career funding including the Kootstra Talent Fellowship, investigates whether nutritional and metabolic challenges can modulate brain physiology and cognitive function in older adults at cardiometabolic risk. At NUTRITION 2026, I will present findings from a randomized, double-blind, crossover trial examining the acute effects of ketone monoester supplementation on brain insulin responsiveness and cognitive performance in older men with overweight. I was selected as a finalist for the American Society for Nutrition Nutrition Translation Award Competition and for ASN’s Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Poster Competition.
