Professor Jonathan Tammam is Director of the Centre for Nutrition and Health, and Programme Director of Nutrition and Dietetics at Oxford Brookes University, UK. Professor Tammam leads a nationally and internationally recognised research programme in prisoner diet and health. His work has directly informed prison food policy and shaped change in practice across the prison estate. He is principal investigator on a £1.8M multi-partner randomised controlled trial examining the impact of nutritional supplementation on violence reduction in the youth secure estate. Professor Tammam's interest in custodial nutrition spans over 15 years, with earlier work examining systematic analyses of food provision, choice, and consumption in adult and young offender institutions, finding significant divergence from healthy eating guidance. He has also investigated food availability from the prison shop and has advocated for reduced availability of unhealthy food in prisons.
