Proper hydration is essential for good health, yet many Americans are not regularly meeting their daily fluid intake recommendations. This session will review current fluid consumption patterns, the physiology of hydration and the metabolic effects of chronic underhydration on overall health and well-being. Leading experts in the field will discuss current research on the mechanistic effects of low fluid intake on risk of chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease. What we know about hydration’s impact on aging, mortality and dementia may also be explored. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the importance of hydration to general health and wellness.
